Wi-Fi® AFC: supercharge 6 GHz Wi-Fi
Secure, compliant Wi-Fi Automated Frequency Coordination
Wi-Fi AFC is a secure cloud-based service for AP vendors and service providers across consumer, retail, and enterprise markets aiming to deploy standard power Wi-Fi® devices in the 6 GHz band. The service ensures the protection of important incumbent operations while providing maximum permissible transmission power levels that are available for use by standard power Wi-Fi devices in the 6 GHz band.
Wi-Fi AFC builds upon an open-source core component implementation (Open AFC) and provides a highly configurable system that fulfills the National Regulatory Agency’s requirements and accommodates future improvements as the 6 GHz AFC ecosystem evolves. Wi-Fi AFC is compliant with the industry-agreed Wi-Fi Alliance AFC System to AFC Device Interface (SDI) Specification.
Wi-Fi AFC customers have access to an array of onboarding and consulting services that will be invaluable in preparation for obtaining FCC certification and embarking upon the commercial rollout of standard power devices. Customers may leverage the Wi-Fi Alliance AFC DUT Test Harness for validation of their SDI implementation, Wi-Fi AFC engineering support for integration of the customer’s devices and/or proxy with Wi-Fi AFC, and integrated regulatory testing as part of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED® program within FCC-recognized accredited laboratories.
Wi-Fi AFC delivers significant benefits to our customers:
How Wi-Fi AFC works
Wi-Fi AFC is based on the platform developed by Open AFC, a software group within the Telecom Infra Project, and hosted on leading cloud platforms. Open AFC is a dedicated open-source community led by well-established industry leaders for the design, development, and testing of AFC software for unlicensed services (e.g., Wi-Fi) in the 6 GHz band.
Wi-Fi AFC incorporates the latest security best practices, providing a secure data management system including shielding of critical computational resources, complying with rigorous data security standards, and protecting against external attacks such as denial of service. Our AFC implementation uniquely identifies and authenticates the device or network element to ensure available frequencies and power levels are only provided to authorized AFC Devices.
Customers will license Wi-Fi AFC as a service subscription based on the number of devices using the service.
